Views can be photo-like images such as those above, showing how the garden could look, or a sequence of views linked together into a walk-around slideshow  - Steve could even develop a short animation giving a “virtual” video tour.

3D Models, Images and Animations

Steve now does all his design work using the Vectorworks/Landmark Computer Aided Design (CAD) package  - a professional software tool specifically geared to Garden & Landscape Design.  Developing a design model with Vectorworks allows  you to see Steve’s proposals in “3D”, viewing the scheme from any position (even looking out through the windows of your property) so you can see how the design works for you.

Steve says “CAD visualization allows us to explore options early on in the design work using a “what if” approach to see the alternatives before any construction work takes place.  It’s much easier, and far less costly, to change a design model than to change something that’s not quite right for you after it has been built.  CAD models also make the construction drawings more accurate & simpler to understand for the contractor, so that too can be a saving.”

When planning the location of  sitting areas or crop beds, the shade cast by buildings, fences or trees is an important consideration — modelled views can accurately show how the shadows would fall at different times of day and/or in different seasons.

The model can also be used to explore the effect of nightscape lighting and decide whether this could add even more benefit to your garden investment.
